Prices for each of the streaming services, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and JioHotstar differ making the comparison of monthly charges difficult. Netflix sells standalone access for each month. Prime Video the service bundles video among a larger membership. JioHotstar sells access for three time durations at all tiers and for some, puts part of their catalog behind a paywall. Now all three services have some form of advertising in their service packages.

This page contains the main service deals and what users can expect to get for their money. The individual packages, viewing methods and personal preferences help to determine the best service.

Prices for Netflix and JioHotstar were sourced from each service other plan pages on the 20th of August 2026. For Prime Video prices, we used the published reporting in the Amazon India Newsroom since the prices were not used in the shopping cart checkout, so their prices are less firm and maybe different at the time of sign up.

How the three price their services

Netflix only offers monthly access, so a year costs twelve times the monthly cost.

Amazon Prime Video is sold as a portion of an Amazon Prime membership rather than on its own and includes delivery, music, and gaming. Prime Lite is a less-expensive, less-featured offering.

JioHotstar offers monthly, quarterly, and annual subscriptions for each of its offerings. Its Mobile plan does not include Hollywood content and requires an add-on.

Netflix

Plan Monthly Resolution Devices Watch at once Downloads
Mobile ₹149 480p Phone, tablet 1 1
Basic ₹199 720p HD TV, computer, phone, tablet 1 1
Standard ₹499 1080p Full HD TV, computer, phone, tablet 2 2
Premium ₹649 4K UHD + HDR TV, computer, phone, tablet 4 6

Netflix calls its Basic plan “Most Popular” on its sign up page and for good reason. The only cheaper plan, Mobile, does not run on a TV at all.

The tiers jump unevenly. Mobile to Basic comes at a cost of ₹50 to add TV watching and 720p. Basic to Standard runs a customer ₹300 to add a second stream as well as Full HD. Standard to Premium is a jump of ₹150 and adds 4K, HDR and 6 downloads while also giving 4 simultaneous streams.

Netflix does not enter an advertising-supported plan in its India offerings.

Amazon Prime Video

Plan Price What it includes
Prime Lite ₹799/year Prime Video in HD with ads, one mobile device, reduced Prime benefits
Prime monthly ₹299/month Full Prime membership
Prime annual ₹1,499/year Full Prime: video, delivery, music, gaming
Shopping Edition ₹399/year Shipping benefits only, no video access
Ad-free add-on ₹699/year or ₹129/month Removes advertising from Prime Video

Prime Video has allowed for advertising on paid Plan tiers in India since June 2025. To remove ads it costs ₹699 per year and in addition with ₹1499 yearly plan it becomes ₹2198 per year. Otherwise users can also pay ₹129 monthly to remove the ads along with ₹1499 per year.

The ₹399 Shopping Edition has no video access and is the cheapest Prime tier. The gap between the two billing methods is big. ₹299 per month comes out to ₹3588 over a year compared to ₹1499 to buy the same Membership for a year.

Video is part of a package, so the value of what you are paying for really depends on how much you use the other things inside the package. For someone who buys things on Amazon, the delivery cost is justified. However for someone who does not shop on Amazon, this membership is like a video subscription at ₹1499 and you can evaluate it based on the video offerings.

JioHotstar

Repriced on 28 January 2026.

Plan 1 month 3 months 1 year Watch at once Ads Content
Mobile ₹79 ₹149 ₹499 1 mobile Yes All except Hollywood
Super ₹149 ₹349 ₹1,099 2 devices Yes All content
Premium ₹299 ₹699 ₹2,199 4 devices Ad-free except live sports and other live shows All content

Hollywood content is offered as an add-on on Mobile for ₹49 per month, ₹129 for a quarter or ₹399 for a year. It is part of the basic offering for Super and Premium.

Of the three offerings, JioHotstar has the best billing flexibility (three billing options on every tier) and comes in at the lowest price of ₹79 a month.

In terms of advertising, both Mobile and Super are ad supported and Premium is described as ad free except for live sports and other live shows. So Premium as well as the lower tiers have advertising for live programming.

Premium’s price went from ₹1499 to ₹2199 in January which is 47% increament for yearly plan. Customers who signed up before then continue to get charged the old price as long as they have auto-renew turned on.

Annual cost of every billing route

The monthly and quarterly plans were converted to annual prices to facilitate direct comparisons on the different routes.

Subscription Route Per year
JioHotstar Mobile Annual ₹499
JioHotstar Mobile Quarterly ₹596
Prime Lite Annual ₹799
JioHotstar Mobile + Hollywood Annual ₹898
JioHotstar Mobile Monthly ₹948
JioHotstar Super Annual ₹1,099
JioHotstar Mobile + Hollywood Quarterly ₹1,112
JioHotstar Super Quarterly ₹1,396
Amazon Prime (full) Annual ₹1,499
JioHotstar Mobile + Hollywood Monthly ₹1,536
Netflix Mobile Monthly only ₹1,788
JioHotstar Super Monthly ₹1,788
Amazon Prime + ad-free Annual ₹2,198
JioHotstar Premium Annual ₹2,199
Netflix Basic Monthly only ₹2,388
JioHotstar Premium Quarterly ₹2,796
Amazon Prime (full) Monthly ₹3,588
JioHotstar Premium Monthly ₹3,588
Netflix Standard Monthly only ₹5,988
Netflix Premium Monthly only ₹7,788

Netflix does not offer an annual plan. It means their monthly entry plan will be ₹1788 for a year. Amazon’s full Prime plan is at ₹1499 for a year. Although the offerings are different, with different catalogs, different limitations on the number of devices, and different advertising, that is the relative price for a year of each.

The JioHotstar ₹499 per year plan excludes Hollywood content on a catalog. If you are planning to watch Hollywood titles, the total amount goes up to ₹898 for a year.

At ₹2198 for ad-free Prime Video and ₹2199 for JioHotstar Premium, the two are almost at the same price. However the services and drawbacks for both differ. Prime removes ads with an add-on for its catalog, whereas JioHotstar Premium has ads for its live streaming only.

Where each service leads

Each service takes the lead on something the others do not.

Netflix stands out for having 4K HDR Premium with no ads and four device Premium Plan for a single customer membership.

Amazon Prime has the most bundled services with video including music and gaming at a membership of ₹1,499. Prime Lite, at ₹799, has the lowest annual cost to access its catalog.

JioHotstar has the lowest cost at ₹79 per month with flexible billing options and grandfathered offer pricing that saves its customers from the January hike.

Details worth checking before subscribing

Some of the points only become clear after paying, so it is better to read before you select a plan.

  • Netflix Mobile does not support videos on TV. Basic is the lowest tier to support TV.
  • Netflix has no annual plan, so there is no discount for choosing to sign up for a year.
  • Prime Video has ads even on a paid subscription. Removing them costs ₹699 a year or ₹129 a month, so it ultimately costs more.
  • Amazon’s ₹399 Shopping Edition has no video.
  • JioHotstar Mobile Plan excludes Hollywood movies. The add-on is ₹49 for a month, ₹129 for three months and ₹399 for a year.
  • JioHotstar Premium contains advertisements for live sports and other live shows.
  • JioHotstar users prior to 28 January 2026 will retain their old pricing as long as auto-renewals stay active.

Weighing it up

What separates these options is the catalog, resolution, maximum number of simultaneous users, the importance of advertising and the length of the contract. The last four of these have been addressed in the tables. The first is the most important question for each user and unfortunately no comparison tables answer this.

For users primarily comparing prices, the answer still depends on the other questions, because the price for each level of access may be different. In terms of initial cost, JioHotstar Mobile is cheapest, whereas for unlimited catalog access, Prime Lite is cheapest. In terms of technical specifications, Netflix Premium is most expensive. In terms of billing, JioHotstar is the only one that offers commitment terms of 3 months. The answers to these various questions are disparate.
